The Middle East, Eurasia And Africa Influenza Stakeholders Network (ME’NA-ISN) wishes to honour research by awarding one researcher with the ME’NA-ISN Research Award. Aimed at motivating young and active researchers towards meaningful research in the MENA region, the award will support research in the field of influenza or influenza vaccination. In 2024, the award shall be conferred to an individual who submits a research proposal to be developed within the maximum of 2 years from the time of receiving the funds (estimated to be in (December 2026).

Application and selection process:

  • A completed ME’NA-ISN Research Award application form must be submitted by the applicant briefly outlining the proposed research.
  • Submitted applications will be subjected to a peer-review process by an Award Committee of Experts.
  • Applications will be evaluated based on the quality, novelty, and potential impact of the proposal to the influenza field.
  • The final selection will be presented to the members of the ME’NA-ISN Governing Board for approval and formal endorsement.

Research proposal considerations:

  • The proposed work can be imbedded in a larger project, but a clear objective(s) for the proposed work needs to be defined.
  • Secondary data analyses may be considered.
  • Descriptive literature reviews will not be considered but systematic reviews or meta-analysis may be considered.

Eligibility criteria:

  • The applicant should be aged 45 years old or younger (taking into consideration work hiatus, e.g. parental leave).
  • The proposed work needs to be developed in a country belonging to the extended MENA region or other country covered by our network.
  • Members of the ME’NA-ISN Governing Board and other Scientific Councils are not eligible for the ME’NA-ISN Research Award.

Awardee recognition and benefits:

  • Monetary award of 10 000 Euros and award certificate.
  • Free registration to the ME’NA-ISN 2025 and 2026 Annual Congresses.
  • Oral presentation during the congresses to present the projects interim and final reports.
  • A written final report needs to be submitted to the ME’NA-ISN Governing Board within 2 months of finishing the work. Publishing a scientific article will be encouraged, and if that outcome is not achieved a justification will be required.
